Mitsubishi Motors is currently negotiating with the electric vehicle division of Taiwan’s Foxconn to develop an OEM electric car model, which the Japanese company intends to introduce in Australia and New Zealand in late 2026.
On Wednesday, Mitsubishi announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Foxtron Vehicle Technology to collaborate on the design of the electric vehicle and plans to engage in further talks to finalize the agreement. Foxtron represents a partnership between Foxconn and Taiwan’s Yulon Motor Co., which produces vehicles for Nissan.
In addition, both Mitsubishi and Nissan are leveraging their trilateral alliance with Renault to enhance their electric vehicle offerings in North America. Mitsubishi confirmed it will begin selling a rebadged Nissan Leaf electric vehicle in the latter half of 2026 in North America, while Nissan will market a rebranded plug-in hybrid vehicle developed by Mitsubishi in the region next year.
Moreover, Mitsubishi plans to offer similarly rebranded electric vehicles produced by Renault in Europe.
